Event Description:
Rhonda McClure: Form, Fleece, and Felting Wednesday: April 26 • 2:00 p.m. Fiber artist Rhonda McClure has been raising sheep on a small family farm in eastern Nebraska for over three decades. As a child she was sure she was going to be an artist but encouragement and opportunity were in short supply. Then she met a shepherd named Dan and everything fell into place. To be involved in every step of the process creates a deep understanding of her chosen raw material, wool. Having raised the sheep, she then processes the fleece to produce wool for dying, spinning, and needle felting. Included in MONA’s permanent collection are two of her felt sculptures, both life size needle felted Sandhills cranes, painstakingly shaped by Rhonda from the natural wool produced on her farm. Presented in conjunction with MONA’ exhibition Cranes: Taking Flight exhibition
