KEARNEY – The Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce Business and Education Committee presented the November 2016 Spotlight Business award to Trius Federal Credit Union. Committee Vice Chair Mark Liljehorn, presented the award to President, Dee Schriner and Marketing Director, Vicki Harper.

Trius Federal Credit Union was founded in 1967 on the campus of Kearney State College as Kearney Federal Credit Union.  They started with $3,500 in assets and fifty-five members.  Initially they were known as Third Kearney Federal Credit Union as they were the third credit union in Kearney.  In 2015 they changed their name to Trius Federal Credit Union.  They believe the name represents their members, mission and values as they evolve over the next fifty years.

Through the years many new employee groups were added along with three credit union mergers.  Today Trius Federal Credit Union’s membership has expanded to over 10,000 members in a 3,500-square mile trade area. Membership eligibility now includes anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Buffalo, Dawson, Hall, Kearney or Phelps counties.

Competition for financial products and services is strong, but they aspire to offer consumers an alternative to the typical financial services – the credit union difference, simpler, smarter, better. As their membership grows so does their staff and the products and services they offer. They continue to expand their brick and mortar while others shrink their locations.

Trius Federal Credit Union ranks 15th among the Nebraska Credit Unions 2016 2nd quarter Financial Summary report for asset size.  They rank 1st compared to other Nebraska Credit Unions in 2nd quarter in asset growth with 15.6% over the past 12-months, 12th in loan growth with 9.3% over the past 12-months, and 4th in member growth with 9.4% over the past 12-months.  They continue to have strong growth in members and loans.

As a credit union they operate as a not-for-profit financial institution.  They exist to serve members – not profit.  Any profit is returned to members in the form of lower fees, higher dividends on savings, lower interest rates on loans and expanded services.  They are governed by a volunteer board elected by the membership – one member, one vote whether you have $5 or $5 million, your voice is equal.  They are structured for the financial benefit of their members, and dedicated to provide financial learning and service to their communities.  They take great pride in knowing that each member truly owns a portion of their credit union.

Trius Federal Credit Union has been a member of the Kearney Chamber since 1992. Stop in to the Kearney location at 2915 Second Ave., give them a call at 308-237-9993 or visit, www.triusfcu.com.
