DESCRIPTION:Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska knows that the building blocks of a healthier state start in each community. Whether it's neighbors encouraging each other to take a walk\, or community centers setting up friendly fitness competitions the inspiration to get up\, get moving\, get healthy will not come from a brochure or a newsletter. The most effective fitness tool is the encouragement of a friend and the understanding that small changes really do make a big difference.  During the past four years\, 24 Nebraska communities have received 35 BCBSNE Wellness Grants totaling $333\,000.\n\n\n\nRecipients for the 2012 BCBS grant include 2 projects from Kearney.\n\n\n\n1)  Tobacco Prevention for Middle School Grades Program-  KPS and Good Samaritan Hospital\n\nGrant writer: Lesley LaFile- Good Samaritan Hospital\n\n\n\n2) Mission Possible: Physical Activity Everyday Program- KPS and UNK collaboration\n\nPrimary Contact and Organizer:  Megan Adkins\, PhD-UNK\n\nMission Possible:  Physical Activity Everyday aims to increase physical activity and fitness to decrease excessive weight gain and prevalence of obesity by providing a school based physical activity program that occurs during the normal school day.  Mission Possible: Physical Activity Everyday is a school- based physical activity program for children in grades K-5 attending Central Elementary School. The program will focus on providing physical activity to children every day of the school week for 25-30 minutes in addition to recess through the use of a physical activity specialist to work with the PE teacher. \n\n \n\n\n\nGrant Award Ceremony Information:\n\n\n\nSunday\, June 24th at Harmon Park\n\n (The awards ceremony is in collaboration with the Kearney Community Olympics Awards Ceremony)\n\n\n\n5:30-6:00  Meet and greet BCBS Sponsors behind the stage at Harmon Park\n\n6:00  Award Ceremony begins (we are 1st on the agenda)
