October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! Central Health Center and Dickey’s Barbeque Pit will be partnering in an event to support Breast Cancer Awareness. On Wednesday, October 23, 2013 from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Dickey’s Barbeque Pit in both Grand Island and Kearney will be donating a portion of the proceeds to Central Health Center’s THINK PINK Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign. The funds will go to St. Francis Cancer Treatment Center and Good Samaritan Cancer Treatment Center. With the help of the community last year we were able to donate funds to the local cancer treatment centers to purchase robes and medi alert bracelets for breast cancer patients. Central Health Center is partnered with Nebraska Affiliate Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and offers breast health screenings to those who qualify. This program focuses on women who are underinsured or not insured, who otherwise would not be able to afford routine screenings or if needed, further diagnostic testing. In 2009, there were 1,249 female breast cancer diagnoses in Nebraska. In 2008, over 210,203 women were diagnosed with breast cancer, and over 40,589 women died from the disease in the United States. Don’t forget to show your support and join us at Dickey’s for THINK PINK!
