Judi M. gaiashkibos: The Legacy of Chief Standing Bear Wednesday, January 24 • 2:00 p.m. The life and legacy of Ponca tribe Chief Standing Bear was recently honored on October 15, 2017 with the installation of a 10-foot bronze sculpture of Chief Standing Bear at the Centennial Mall in Lincoln, Nebraska. Judi M. gaiashkibos shares the incredible story of his life and fight for justice, and how the discrimination he suffered and his campaign for justice inspired the creation of the sculpture from inception to installation. The casting process included a number of smaller maquettes, two of which will be on display during this presentation. The sale of the maquettes is supporting scholarship funds awarded in the name of Chief Standing Bear to Native American students in Nebraska. Judi M. gaiashkibos has been the Executive Director of the Nebraska Commission on Indian Affairs since 1995. An enrolled member of the Ponca tribe of Nebraska, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Relations and a Master’s in Management with a Leadership Emphasis from Doane College, Nebraska.
