Founded in 1877, The Tile Club was a group of prominent artists (Winslow Homer, William Merritt Chase, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, Edwin Austin Abbey, J. Alden Weir, and John H. Twachtman) who met weekly to paint eight-by-eight ceramic tiles, smoke cigars and drink whiskey.
