June 14th, 2014, will mark the 5th annual celebration of The Queen?s Birthday; Party Across the Pond held in central Nebraska in support of the Nebraska AIDS Project office located in Kearney, Nebraska. Supporters and friends of the Nebraska AIDS Project will gather at Cunningham?s Journal at 15 W. 23rd street in downtown Kearney to raise funds that will help sustain services provided by the Kearney office which serves 38 counties in the central part of Nebraska. The purpose of the event is to increase community awareness and to help further testing and education about HIV and AIDS. This year?s event will officially kick off at 11:00 a.m. with our British Car Show. British car enthusiasts will have an opportunity to see some fine examples of British-made cars from right here in central Nebraska. The Kearney Classic Car Collection will also be bringing in some fine examples of British-made cars from their collection. Judges will determine Best in Show which will be awarded at 4:45 p.m. After kicking off our British Car show at 11 a.m., Cunningham?s Journal will start the day off with British food specials, including traditional fish and chips, which will be served all day. You?ll also want to get to Cunningham?s early to get your commemorative Queen?s Birthday drinking glass; the glasses, which are limited in number, may be purchased for $10 each and all proceeds will go directly to NAP. Cunningham?s will have some great specials on British keg beer throughout the day, but the special price for the beer is only available with the purchase of a commemorative glass. Cunningham?s will also be serving the famous Pimm?s cups that many of you enjoyed so much last year. Raffle tickets will be sold at this year?s event and there will be many great prizes given away; grand prize will be two roundtrip airfare tickets from Nebraska to London. We will also be giving away a 42? Plasma flat-screen TV, an iPad Air, and several other very nice gift baskets full of British items. Raffle tickets are $5 each and all proceeds will benefit NAP. You do not have to be present to win. The Nebraska AIDS Project is also happy to announce that members of the British Royal Air Force from Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, Nebraska, will be joining us again this year. Afternoon tea and biscuits will be served at 3 p.m. in the Courtyard at Cunningham?s Journal and you will want to wear your favorite hat for our English Hat Contest. The wearer of the best hat will be awarded a prize at 4:45 p.m. As is customary with the Queen?s Birthday event, a British toast will occur at 4:55 p.m. in honour of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, followed by the British National Anthem. At 5:00 p.m., England will play Italy in the 2014 FIFA World Cup? English Football game which will be shown on big screen TV?s throughout Cunningham?s Journal. From 8 p.m. to Midnight, Cunningham?s will feature the live band Lemon Fresh Day. Lemon Fresh Day formed in 1988 as a part-time alternative band, and has transformed over the years into a full time dance/rock show performing a mix of all music styles and genres.
