Plans, directs, supervises, assigns, and participate in the work of Law Enforcement staff involved in traffic control, and field patrol, investigations, crime prevention, community relations, and related services and activities; serves as watch commander on an assigned shift, oversees and participates in all work activities; assumes responsibility for assigned special program, projects, or department-wide functions and activities; coordinates activities with other agencies’ and performs a variety of administrative and technical tasks relative to assigned area and responsibility. Supervises and monitors all new recruits through the Field Training process (FTO). Oversees Crime Prevention efforts on campus and is the lead Sexual Assault Investigator for the campus Police Department.
- Presents Crime Prevention programming throughout campus
- Supervise subordinates
- Enforce all state laws, city codes, and UNK regulations
- Respond to criminal incidents i.e., thefts, burglaries, sexual assaults etc.… incidents,
welfare checks, harassing phone calls, animal calls and medical emergencies
- Escort service to ensure the safety of students and employees
- Respond to all Emergency Management issues or natural disasters
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
High school education or GED. Must meet the physical requirements for acceptance and completion of the Nebraska Law Enforcement training program. Must be able to sign an employment contract with UNK upon completion of the Training Academy. Must be 21 years of age. Requires a valid driver's license with a minimum of 6 points, good driving record and no criminal offenses.
Preferred Qualifications:
Hold a valid Nebraska Law Enforcement Certification. College degree and experience in related field.
