The Buffalo County Historical Society seeks volunteers to help preserve local history at the Trails & Rails Museum (located at 710 W. 11th St, Kearney, NE). Volunteer roles range from archiving documents and maintaining historic buildings to acting as tour guides and assisting with public events.
Current Volunteer Needs & Roles
Volunteers with the historical society contribute in several key capacities:
- Archival Research & Cataloging: Organizing historical archives, creating indexes, and helping researchers.
- Museum Operations: Serving as front-desk greeters, visitor assistants, and tour guides.
- Preservation & Groundskeeping: Maintaining historic buildings, gardening, and assisting with exhibit setup.
- Event Volunteers: Helping with large community events, pioneer demonstrations, and impersonations.
