Ted Carter began his term as the University of Nebraska's eighth president on Jan. 1, 2020. Carter served as superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy, from 2014-2019. Prior to that, Carter was president of the Naval War College. He also brings extensive military service, having graduated from the Navy Fighter Weapons School (Top Gun) in Miramar, Calif., in 1985. He was commander for Carrier Strike Group Twelve, was a naval flight officer with more than 6,300 flying hours, and completed 2,016 carrier-arrested landings, an American record. Carter earned his bachelor’s degree in physics and oceanography from the U.S. Naval Academy. He also has educational credentials from the Navy Nuclear Power School, the Air Force Air War College, the Naval War College and the Armed Forces Staff College.
