Coats for Kids Program

For Immediate Release

KEARNEY, NE – New winter coats for children will be distributed through the Coats for Kids Program on October 1, 2020, 2:00-6:00 pm. This program is hosted annually by Buffalo County Goodfellows, however, this year Kearney Kiwanis Clubs, Kearney Elks Lodge #984, and United Way of the Kearney Area teamed up with them to assist more children and families.

Registration for coats took place in July in conjunction with the Back 2 School Backpack Program with Dobytown Kiwanis and United Way. The goal was to combine efforts from local churches and other organizations to provide coats to kids in need prior to the onset of colder weather and the holidays. This year over 1,283 requests for coats were received.

This program was supported by funding from generous community donors and the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (Cares Act) from the U.S. Department of Treasury and the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, CFDA Number 21.019.

The mission of United Way of the Kearney Area is to build a stronger community by uniting people who care with people who need.
