Free Essential Life Planning Workshop                                           For immediate release: July 5, 2022

The Buffalo County Historical Society (BCHS)/Trails & Rails Museum will be hosting an Essential Life Planning Workshop on Sunday, July 24 from 1-4 pm.   The goal is to create a one-stop location for people of all ages to have their questions answered.  Topics included are: Living Wills, Patient Family Advocacy Council, Power of Attorney, Donor Advised Funds, Retirement/Estate Planning, Wills/Legacy Gifts, Cemetery, Monuments, Writing Obituaries, Organ Donations, Palliative Care, the Area Agency on Ageing, Nursing Homes, Assisted Living, In-home health, Insurance, Mental Health, and preserving your family history and items.

“This will be a come-and-go type event where you pop in and visit with an expert about something that you have been wondering about but you also might find out information about a topic you hadn’t known you needed to be aware of,” said Broc Anderson, BCHS Community Engagement Director.

All are welcome to come in, pick up a FAQ sheet, visit with a representative from many organizations, set up appointments for more in-depth conversations, and sign up for prizes.  This event will be held inside the newly opened West Wing of the Family History Center, located on the Trails & Rails Museum grounds.

“We have members that are all ages, just starting their family through retirement ages, that have asked us questions about leaving legacy gifts or how they could donate to BCHS through a Donor Advised Fund,” explained Jennifer Murrish, BCHS Executive Director. “Therefore we wanted to create an event that would allow everyone a free opportunity to come in and have those questions answered.  This workshop is open to the public. We chose July 24th, as this is the International Self-Care Day. The goal will be to have this workshop annually.”

Trails & Rails Museum is a true not-for-profit, 501c-3 organization that is owned and operated by the Buffalo County Historical Society.  Naming Rights are still available for this area, as well as additional areas on the Museum grounds.
