Kearney Tackles Cancer Kicks-off with Car Wash and Shirt Sales to Help Local Cancer Patients

KEARNEY, Neb. – Kearney High School (KHS), Kearney Catholic High School (KCHS), faculty and staff from CHI Health Good Samaritan Cancer Center are gearing up for the 13th annual Kearney Tackles Cancer (KTC). The student-led campaign has raised more than $500,000 for local cancer patients since 2009.

The community is invited to show their support at the KTC kick-off, a fundraising car wash, from 10 a.m to noon on Sat., Aug. 6 at Family Fresh in Kearney.

Orders for KTC T-shirts, the campaign’s primary fundraiser, will be accepted through Aug. 31. Visit the group’s Facebook page “Kearney Tackles Cancer” for pricing and online ordering information. Cash and carry T-shirts will also be available in the hospital’s Sure Cure Gift Shop later this month.

The community is encouraged to wear their KTC shirts to the Sept. 30 KHS and Oct. 7 KCHS football games.

All proceeds from KTC shirt sales and other fundraising activities directly impact the lives of local cancer patients by helping to cover the cost of medications, travel and other living expenses incurred during treatment.

“We are humbled and grateful for the ongoing energy and support for this cause that directly benefits our patients,” says Dana Welsh, RN, supervisor, Good Samaritan Cancer Center and adult sponsor of KTC organization.
