Senior Technician, Electrical

Must be able to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, drawings, code books, electrical formulas and conversion tables and apply this knowledge to the maintenance, repair and installation of electrical and telecommunication distribution systems, devices and electrical generation systems. Must have knowledge of regulatory codes and requirements such as National Electric Code. Must have the ability to layout, install, and repair electrical power, telecommunication, fire and security circuits, equipment, and appliances; install conduits (rigid, EMT, PVC), power conductors, switches, receptacles, light fixtures, and other electrical devices using necessary power and hand tools. Requires an operational knowledge of various meters and test devices necessary to inspect, test, maintain and repair electrical motors, fixtures, starters, switches, controllers, contactors, fire alarm systems, and other electrical equipment. De-energize circuits and remove wiring of motors, appliances, fixtures and other electrical equipment for replacement or repair. Examine and test elements of electrical systems to locate faults, shorts, opens, connections, etc. Repair, maintain, test and calibrate electrically operated controls and devices, such as communication devices, signal devices, fire and warning security devices, etc. Operate an infrared scanner to detect hot spots and resistance problems in switch gears, panels, raceways, and devices. Must be able to perform preventative maintenance on similar equipment. Good oral and written communication skills are required. Must estimate electrical job costs, generate accurate material requirement lists, initiate purchases of approved equipment and materials from vendors and catalogs, meet with electrical equipment sales representatives and approve and monitor the activities of contracted personnel. Set up and assist with operation of portable and installed public address and sound systems. Perform other related duties as assigned. Will be on rotating backup shift schedule to cover vacationing staff on 24-hour crew. 
 
Required Qualifications:

  • High school education or GED
  • 2 years of relevant experience
  • Completion of a 4-year journeyman program, or 2-year vocational technical program and 2 years of electrical construction or service experience required. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired. Requires a Nebraska State Contractor or Masters Electrician License and a valid Nebraska State Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications:
Four years of experience with electrical contractor or service work. Student experience will be considered.
 
Pre-employment physical is required for the position.
