The City of Kearney Public Works Department is seeking a detail-oriented individual who will lead a team of 15 employees within the Street Division and oversee the maintenance, repair, and construction of roads, streets, curbs, sidewalks, storm sewers, drainage structures, signs, and pavement markings. This position plans and directs street maintenance programs, snow removal and storm cleanup, flood control operations, equipment and material purchases, budgets, contracts, and emergency response. The ideal candidate is a strong leader who can make sound decisions, manage resources, respond to public concerns, and maintain high standards of service and safety.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent plus five or more years of progressively responsible street maintenance/construction experience, including three years in a supervisory capacity. College coursework or vocational training in engineering or a related field is desirable. Must possess a valid Nebraska CDL Class B with air brakes and tanker endorsements, or obtain one within six months of hire.
Residency requirement: Must be able to respond to the assigned work site within 30 minutes by the most direct route, within posted speed limits.
